Essays on WomanEssays on Woman, Volume 2

This is the book to purchase if "Catholic" and "feminist" seems to be an oxymoron to you. It is the text from lectures that Dr. Stein delivered to Catholic educators in several venues from 1928 - 1932, prior to entering the Cologne Carmel.

Life in a Jewish Family, Volume 1Autobiography

This is Edith's autobiography of her early years and education, which she began in the months prior to her reception into the Cologne Carmel as a novice. She was anxious about the future of the Jews when Hitler came to power, and sought to show the patriotism and positive qualities of her Jewish family. She continued to work on the biography in Carmel, even after leaving Germany for Echt, Holland.

Posselt BiographyEdith Stein: The Life of a Carmelite and Philosopher, by Teresia Posselt, OCD

edited by Josephine Koeppel, John Sullivan and Susanne Batzdorff

Teresa Renata Posselt, O.C.D. was the Novice Director, then Mother Prioress of the Cologne Carmel when Edith Stein lived there. When Posselt's biography was first published in 1952, it contained a number of errors.
Susanne Batzdorff is Edith Stein's niece, and this 2007 edition notes corrections and helpful extra information that Mother Posselt did not have available.
